Flag Attendants are fifth grade boys and girls who volunteer their time to raise and lower our United States and Georgia state flag each day. They learn about the importance of these patriotic symbols--how to properly handle and display the flag, fold, and care for it.

Students in grades two through five have an opportunity to become their classroom Junior and Senior Fire Marshals. The Marshals are selected by their teachers.
When the fire alarm sounds the job of the Jr. Fire Marshal is to lead his/her classmates out of the classroom to a designated safe place. The Senior Fire Marshal makes sure that everyone is out of the room, the lights are turned off, and the door is closed. The Sr. Fire Marshal then positions himself/herself at the end of the line and when the class has reached the designated safe area, he/she counts the students and reports this number to the teacher.
When the "ALL CLEAR" signal sounds, the Sr. Fire Marshal leads the students back to the classroom and the Jr. Fire Marshal is at the end of the line to make sure that everyone returns to the classroom.

Our 5th grade students are given the opportunity to be a part of the D.A.R.E program. Our instructor, Lt. Wanda Wells of the Burke Co. Sheriff's Office, does a great job teaching our students about the dangers of drugs, peer pressure, and bullying. The students are engaged in prevention lessons once a week for 10 weeks. We have a graduation ceremony after completion of the program. This program is designed to give students a foundation to avoid involvement with drugs, peer pressure, and bullying as they continue their lives. We are thankful and honored to be a part of this educational prevention program.

The 4-H program is a very appropriate program for the 5th students of S.G.A. Elementary because our school system is located in a predominately rural area. A fun fact about our 4-H program is that it is an extension of the University of Georgia, therefore, our 5th graders are the youngest students enrolled in the University of Georgia! Besides learning about our county, agriculture, and farming, they also learn the Georgia Bulldog yell! GO DOGS !!!!!!!!
