(Posted Monday, December 17, 2012) My intent with this message is to assure you we will be working with increased focus this week and beyond to address the physical safety of our children. Law Enforcement from the Burke County Sheriff’s Department and the Waynesboro Police Department have been invited to walk through our schools, as they have in the past, not in response to any threat but rather a police initiative to enhance safety and security around our schools. Our school safety plans are in place. We have the ability to lockdown our schools and evacuate if necessary, with shelter in place. Today, we begin the process of reviewing and evaluating these plans to determine what else can be done to make our schools as safe as possible.
