The SGA Student Council held their annual Christmas food drive this year and delivered food items to families in the community.  The was donated by the students, faculty and staff of SGA Elementary.  The students truly experienced the joy of giving.

Each year our school participates in the Empty Stocking Fund. We believe that is is a worthwhile community service that provides our students the opportunity to learn the importance of generosity and kindness, both of which are character education qualities that are taught at SGA Elementary. This year, our students contributed $760.00. Through faculty and staff contributions, our school contributed a total of $1,335.00 to the Empty Stocking Fund.

Mrs. Wende Dickey has been named the 2009-2010 Burke County Teacher of the Year. This is a special honor for both Mrs. Dickey and our school.  The school has never before received this honor for two consecutive years.  Last year Mrs. Katie Mobley, a second grade teacher, was named the 2008-2009 Burke County Teacher of the Year.

Mrs. Dickey considers herself a "late bloomer" because she was 34 before deciding "what she wanted to be when she grew up" . At that time she entered college and began teaching at the age of 41. Her career has been centered around working with students in kindergarten and pre-k.  Her enthusiam and love for the students can be seen daily by her peers. She firmly believes that her job is a serious one because she is the first teacher (outside of the home) that most children have. In her Pre-K classroom the tone is set for the rest of their schooling experiences, so she feels that her job is to make learning fun and exciting. 

Mrs. Dickey says that, "Burke County is the BEST place to work and I am blessed to be a part of the SGA family!"

Ms. Freddie Williams was named the 2009 Paraprofessional of the Year by her SGA Family.  She was selected by her peers because of her twenty-three years of dedication and love for the children at our school. Her career has included working with students in pre-k through eight grade.  In Girard she worked with students up to grade eight and now she is at S.G.A. where she has been for the last fourteen years.  Now she works with kindergarten students, where she has spent most of her years, making a positive difference in their lives. 

Ms. Williams says that, "I'm blessed to be a part of the SGA family and to work with the children at our school."

S.G.A. Elementary School has met AYP   for 8 consecutive years and has been named a   TITLE I Distinguished School!   S.G.A.
