The Burke County Public School System firmly believes that in-person instruction is best for student learning while acknowledging that the threat of COVID-19 has challenged our ability to provide face to face instruction as our sole method for teaching children. We understand that anything less than a full-time, in-person school schedule strains many of our parents who have to go to work and cannot be home with their children. We also recognize that because of medically fragile students, at-risk family members, or other issues, some families may not be comfortable returning to a traditional classroom at this time.
The safety guidelines and plans set for our schools and facilities are based upon Georgia’s Path to Recovery for K-12 Schools
and are fluid and subject to change, as the safety of our students and staff is our top priority. Under current conditions, Burke County Public Schools will be unable to return at full capacity.
With that noted, for the start of the 2020-2021 School Year, the district will offer our families the following options:
- A/B Scheduling: my child will attend school on scheduled days. Households will be scheduled to attend school on A-Days or B-Days and will be expected to complete activities from home on the other days.
- Distance/Remote Learning: my child will complete learning activities from home only; we understand that the learning expectations will be rigorous and equal to a traditional schooling environment.
Please note: our plans may be modified based on new or additional information we receive.
So that we may make preparations, please inform us of your intent to send your child to school in our A/B Scheduling Plan or keep them at home. Please complete this form no later than July 31st. Households with more than one student must complete the form for each child.
