Dr. Frances Young, P-5 Curriculum and Professional Learning Director, has worked in the Burke County School District as a teacher, lead teacher, assistant principal for instruction, and district P-12 curriculum director. It is a pleasure to work with the faculty and staff, administrators and families to provide the highest quality instruction for Burke County students. Our goal is to provide incredible support, as we work together to ensure that all students will graduate with the necessary skills to function successfully in a global society.
Each year it has become more convincing that the one thing that has the greatest impact on student success is a competent caring teacher. Recently, much of our dialogue and planning has focused on the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards. In this effort, Burke County Schools have approached the entire endeavor with a sense of excitement and a desire to rise to the occasion. In this process, our students are deeply engaged in relevant rigorous learning, critical analysis, debate, research, synthesis, problem solving, and reflection. We also support the Teacher Keys Effectiveness System and Leader Keys Effectiveness System –Georgia’s teacher and leader evaluation, and professional learning. Simply put, the educators of Burke County are deeply committed to strong instructional leadership, planning and delivering instruction using exemplary practices.
Emphasis is also placed heavily on the CCRPI-College and Career Readiness Performance Index. The elementary school years are a wonderful time to foster students’ enthusiasm about ‘what they want to be when they grow up,” to encourage excitement about their futures, and to build the foundation for academic success.
To maintain success, the office of Curriculum, Instruction, and Professional Learning will continue to analyze how we are doing; support the achievement of all students and ensure that the teachers have the professional learning necessary to provide proficient instruction, support, and services needed to produce improved student outcomes. Reaching towards this mission will allow us to close achievement gaps and lead the state in improving student achievement. We look forward to working with you as we promote student success. We will all be strengthened by this journey as we maximize our instructional time. Whenever you have a question or need assistance, please do not hesitate to call for support.
