Tyler Torek cautions teachers from inviting students to Google Meet through a meeting ID, like those provided in Google Calendar. He shows that the Google Meet link found in the header of the Google Classroom has extra restrictions built in that prevent students from entering the meeting when teachers aren't present. Lynda Moore demonstrates a super tip within conditional format spreadsheets that will provide the student a link for additional help if the wrong answer is submitted.

all right can you see my screen so this morning I just wanted to talk a little bit real quick about Google meet and Howard student will join Google meet with a teacher we've been telling the teachers to use the meat Link at the top of the classroom header now the question is or some teachers asked last week can the students get into that meeting if the teachers not there if you just leave that link at the top of the header and we tested this out Friday with student accounts and the answer to that is no a student cannot enter this Google meet link unless the teacher is in the meeting so you can leave that in the header of your classroom or if you stay comfortable. It feel free to turn it off you would go up to settings in the classroom and we'll see where is that where do I turn that off that was out there. are there it is okay thank you thank you so I could toggle that off and then save it and go back to Google classroom and it says that it's got a guy with a slash through it so venison that if it's logged into this Google Classroom right here they can't stay in fact I'll just go ahead and double-check that shrimp and I think that yeah whatever it is this just a student's view of it and notice delete the link is gone so as a teacher when I'm ready to go and meet with my students maybe 10 minutes before the meeting starts I could come up here under settings login and turn make that visible to students until students you know look for that meeting Link at the top so now go back to the student see how this is a student account and the meeting link has all the appeared because I turned that on now I do want to mention this and that is that some teachers may not be using Google classroom and they met schedule Google meet in Google Calendar that's that's bad and let me tell you why because when he's got a purple meeting right here called Google meet at 12 and if I share this with this meeting link meeting ID with students outside this is not associated with a Google Classroom if I copied on an email that or message that to my students I said that we're going to use this being late today the students can get cancel that meeting link before the teacher arrives in other words are not blocked the only way they're blocked from entering a meeting before teacher is through Google Classroom Google Classroom this meeting like this one lockdown it's got some special rules behind it so just know that if you're a teacher you should not be scheduling you're a synchronous meetings with students to Google Calendar because those meeting I I will let the students into that room at anytime they want to even days before and and days after still Google calendar meeting Lee not for students Linda did I explain that well okay hey guys so today my trick is going to be I'm going to go ahead and share my screen my trick is going to be on the distance we learned how to do conditional formatting and with conditional formatting I showed you how you could take different Quest and add them into your Google Sheets will today I've been helping teachers sporadically throughout the county and one of the teachers that teaches sale we came up with this really cool way in I'm going to show you with a different image but what I want to do is you'll notice that I have free done abcdefgh and what we're going to do is have a student actually answer right here so the who is your cursor needs to be in the art the first sale on the first row in the First Column should be highlighted and what we're going to do is we're going to get an answer and I'm going to get an image and I going to go to know if you do Imogen cell what that means is the image is going to be real small and you can resize your cell if you like 2 or I'm just going to do image oversell this method as a quick easy method for student feedback so that's kind of why I'm not taking a lot of time to format all the sales I just want to show you how easy this so I have a screenshot an image of the digestive system and you'll see that I can resize this as I want to be as big as I want to and what I'm going to do is I'm going to pick something that I know which is going to be ES so what I'm going to do is I'm going to go and I'm going to form at this I'm going to go to let's see 4matic conditional format and what I'm going to do I'm going to just conditionally format like I taught you before so we're going to say text is exactly and so we will accept Capital liver and it is correct we're going to change it to Green and I'm also going to add another one to that same cell and I'm going to put if it is empty the cell is empty I wanted to be read which is going to kind of give the students a clue of where I want them to put the answers now you can go up here and you can write some directions as you want to the other thing that I want to do is I want to go ahead and add one more roll because not only am I going to accept the uppercase L I'm also going to accept the lower case L know if that's the case then it's change the green again so now what's going to happen is I have and I'm just doing one because I've already shown me this the new part is the diagram so what I can do as I can just go nintype liver and it will turn green now another teacher that I was helping you took this to the next level and said okay but what is they consistently so one of the things that I can do over here is I can say need help Rexy you're the internet so so so I'm just going to say need help and what I'm going to do is I am going to hopefully be able to link to that link those words what am I going to Lincolnton so what I did was I went over and y'all I don't know anything about teaching the digestive system so I'm just going to grab this YouTube video that hopefully will help in this process I'm going to link YouTube video to my Google Sheets so now what I'm going to do once it was turn it off and it I have to approve it of course like we've done before so and then I'm going to go to the share button I'm going to grab the Ling and now I'm going to go back to my sheets and I'm going to go to the link button right here and I'm just going to paste in that YouTube now what's going to happen is my students if they need help on their can now just click right here and got it I have to tell you from the first part of conditional formatting to where we are here this is an amazing tool for teachers that don't get to see their students because you want to give students the confidence to as they go and if they type in the correct answer then they're good to go but if they miss it and they need help then they can click right here so I wanted to just show you those two things it's pretty easy to add an image and there are different things that you can do with the image you can resize it you can put it in a selected cell I recommend not even resizing all of that because it's just faster if you resize it but you can do whatever you want to it's a great idea for a conditional formatting so I just wanted to share that with you guys real quick
