Records Request

Burke County Public Schools now offers a secure website for current and former students, colleges, universities, and corporations to request transcripts and student records online.

Per District policy and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), student records are only available to those who have authorization from the student or parent, guardian, or responsible person if the student is less than 18 years of age. If the student is 18 or older, school records will not be released to a parent, guardian, or responsible person without the student’s written consent.

Unofficial transcripts can be requested and sent to participating colleges and universities within the state of Georgia free of charge via the  GAFUTURES.ORG website.

According to the Georgia Open Records Act (O.C.G.A. §50-18-70, et seq.), public records are generally available for inspection and copying. However, certain records are exempt from disclosure by law.

All requests to inspect or copy public records must be submitted in writing to the designated Open Records Officer, Ms. Anna Harely (contact information provided to the right).

The school district will endeavor to respond to all requests within three business days. In the event that a response cannot be provided within this timeframe, the Open Records Officer will promptly issue a written explanation.

If the school district withholds any requested records, the specific legal exemption under the Georgia Open Records Act will be clearly cited.

Please be advised that reasonable fees may be charged for the production of public records in accordance with the provisions of the Georgia Open Records Act.
