What is the 2021 Virtual Mid-Year Gathering all about?
Each service term, we plan a convening for FoodCorps service members and staff in the winter to come together to learn, reflect, refresh and gear up for a meaningful spring. This year’s Gathering will be held virtually in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, in order to keep our FoodCorps and service communities safe. Just as we did with our Virtual Orientation this year, we are excited to try out some new ways to make the gathering engaging, meaningful and a positive experience for everyone!
What are the goals of the gathering?
Facilitate training and learning experiences focused on FoodCorps’ Core Competencies
Highlight creative, responsive adaptations to service that have occurred during the pandemic
Provide opportunities to focus on personal career exploration and professional development
Hold space for service members to reflect, recharge and rejuvenate
Focus on building connections and strengthening the FoodCorps community and network, including service members, staff, alumni and site supervisors
Provide a meaningful opportunity where service members can inform FoodCorps staff about their experiences, offer input about the program model and suggest how staff can best support them in their service
Will we be expected to continue service activities during the Virtual Mid-Year Gathering?
No. We would like to continue to offer an immersive experience where you can be fully present for the Virtual Mid-Year Gathering activities and trainings, as we have in years past. Typically the Mid-Year Gathering time is a moment to rejuvenate and refresh before a busy spring, and we’d like to aim for that same type of experience, as it is often a highlight for service members! Please be sure that your service sites know you will not be available for service activities during the week of February 22nd - 26th, and we will be sure to communicate this at the state level as well.

Mid-Year Gatherings are really great because so many people (including you!) play a huge role in the planning and shaping of the experience. We truly value the spirit and energy that service members and staff bring to the events each year and we are excited to see how this will transform in a 2021 virtual environment! A huge thank you to the state staff and team leaders who are key in planning these experiences.
