Description: Below you can review the lesson sequence per grade level. All lessons are conducted virtually via google meets or zoom if that is preferable. We will integrate skype for the class and flipgrid. Be sure that you schedule your classes in advance so that your slots are not taken. Can't wait to work with you!

Tips for Asynchronous Instruction

Use the provided Google Slides presentations to record a screencast in zoom, quicktime, Screencastify or another app for students to view.
Looking to increase engagement in asynchronous learning? Post your recording for students on your digital teaching platform, then have students write a summary or notes and submit it to you as proof they viewed the video.

Post the links to the lesson readings, assignments, and materials for students to access on their own in Google classroom. Click here to see a sample Google Classroom set-up
Consider “hosting” class discussions in Google Classroom by asking a question on the stream, or use another digital platform, so students can share their healthy eating tips or goals.

Flipgrid is an excellent free tool to encourage engagement and participation in distance learning. Some potential Flipgrid questions are included in Lesson 3

The Teacher Materials

• Teacher Guide
• Food Pictures
• Website– food pictures– standards alignments– additional resources. The teacher materials provided are to be retained and used year after year. There are eight lessons that average 30 – 40 minutes each. You are encouraged to teach these lessons to best meet the needs of your students and classroom, which may mean breaking the lessons into smaller segments and teaching them over more than one day. Additionally, there are Pre- and Post Assessments that range 15 – 35 minutes each.

Student Digital Workbooks are designed to serve as “mini-portfolios” of student work that can be used as a record of their progress and achievement and shared during parent/teacher and student/teacher conferences or Open House. Prior to beginning the program, students complete a Pre-Assessment exercise. They revisit this exercise at the end of the program as a Post-Assessment, which helps you measure knowledge gains resulting from the completion of the program.

The Parent Materials

• Family Letter (English and Spanish)—Downloadable 2-sided sheet; available at HeathyEating.org
• Family Homework (English and Spanish)—Included in student workbook select lessons (tear-out)Recognizing the importance of communication with families, we have developed an introductory Family Letter, which provides a brief overview of the Healthy Choices, Healthy Me! program and encourages family participation. The Family Homework provides students with opportunities to practice the skills they are learning in the classroom, and it engages families to be involved with their students’ learning.
