Tyler Torek shares a list of upcoming feature enhancements to Google Meet and Google Classroom. Lynda Moore demonstrates how a teacher may display grid or lined paper in a Jamboard session. She also discusses the need to switch profiles in Chrome when multiple people are using the same laptop or desktop computer.

okay so today I'm going to share some features that will be rolling out in Google meet and Google classroom next few months or throughout the year some sooner than others but it's you can get excited about some of these so right now in Google meet we're in September and this article says arriving in September we're going to be able to prohibit participants from joining media after they been ejected from the meeting or after they've been denied entry twice and so current I the way it used to be with said if you kick the student out of your Google classroom they could come right back in because the roster to you and Google classroom but now it does kick them out and they cannot come back in Warren undetermined length of time I don't know how long that is but I know it's temporary is not permanent on Neff that's good because you'll you want to take care of that outside of the class and then the next class you'll be able as a teacher to end the meeting for all participants at once when classes finish you can kick them out one at a time but apparently you'll be able to do it for everybody why is that important cuz you are the teacher and you leave the meeting they can continue to do whatever they want virtually in that meeting room that's that's bad you can and let's see there's some other stuff here you can disable the in meeting chat and set restrictions for your meeting that's going to be good you know specially and then I think we already seen this that a setting that requires the teacher to join first in a Google meet that's alright already the case in meeting started in a Google Classroom Google meet by the header I wonder if they're talking about roll set out as well to meeting ideas generated in a calendar event that would be that would be good but I don't know if it's that way they're going to increase improve the internet Davidian Google meet starting in September that going to make it so you can do a 7 x 7 grid and see if the 49 students at once they're going to somehow and the interactivity with jamboards and meet now we already have access to jamboard as a nap in the RG Suites but somehow they're going to end in dead dad or interact that with Google me some I love to see how they're going to do and Chambord if you don't know it's like a digital whiteboard but all the people in the meeting can write on the board all at once were post notes on it or a bad stuff so that's going to be that's going to be kind of me and then the next month October you're going to have as a teacher you're going to have the ability and students do to blur or replace the background of behind you you're you're familiar with that in as I'm meeting you can change the background behind you and you know put yourself it a beach or a tropical vacation or something so they'll add that in Google meet you will also be able to track at 10 and track whether the students attend did your virtual class and that if we do have the Enterprise for Education edition of Google G Suite right now so we will have the attendance portion in Google me this is neat I can't wait to see it but they're going to give birth rims and Google meet so Educators could split class in two simultaneous small groups discussions and that's in our Enterprise Edition Miss Brogan it asks us Linda earlier about when she was doing a virtual meeting if there is a way she was doing professional learning if there was a way to break the the broom into smaller groups where they could chat whatever something that we would use the teachers or something not with students so we'll see then later this year I'm not immediately but they're going to offer a hand raising solution sit to identify when someone's got a question and then look at this feature they're going to offer Q&A feature so that you can do a poll or ask a question during a meet and people can vote on an answer in there additionally they're going to release what's called temporary recordings in Google meet currently we we have the Enterprise version of Google Me Tour Gutt G Suite so we don't have to worry about we can record Unlimited in Google meet but I'm sorry somebody keeps calling me on the cell phone I got to we can record Unlimited in Google meet but for those schools that don't have the Enterprise version of they now have the ability to do a temporary recording which will save the recording from the 30 days and then after that the video expires I guess you would want to download it and post it maybe to you or something is actually that would be a good idea that scratch what I said don't post any student videos on YouTube but we don't have to worry about that cuz we have the unlimited recording in Google me and the article goes on to talk about some new features in classroom so we Linda and I talked about this in our Going the Distance our last Going the Distance class Google Classroom is going to add a widget what to do with it and classroom there's an animation of it here where students can click on it they can see what work has been assigned what work is missing and what work they've done already and in that to get to that that's at the top of the Google Classroom dashboard and then this is already been rolled out and are our teachers have already been using this you can now share a link to join a Google Classroom so if you don't want to give the join code or you don't want to add students by an email address you can just give them to join code alik'r originality report so they're increasing the number of originality reports from 3 to 5 but we don't have to worry about that because we just purchased the Enterprise version of G Suite so we have unlimited originality report but they're also rolling this out so that it will run originality reports on Google slides in addition to Google Docs so that's that's fun is cuz we do a lot of work in Google slides and I turn in a lot of work on Google slides and we know that my students are just copying and pasting things from the internet also it's also going to check in multiple language so people like my wife will be able to benefit from that when they have a maybe a paper in French something that she could tell if they copied and pasted it from the internet they talked about the sources billions of web pages that Google ask and in and 40 million bucks stuff like that here's something cool that Google is also adding starting in a few weeks they're going to anything that a student submits in a private or school bus on repeat boreas pass student work is going to be compared with other student work in the domain for matches so now you can tell if a student is using another student's work in your domain are you more about that when it comes out but that's that's a good thing so changes yeah and Linda you showed us how to change the classroom language Google Classroom language that trick they just rolling out more languages than additional language has some other metrics you're going to be able to in Google Classroom to track how much your students interacted with Google classroom I do that right now I want stop sharing my screen well that's a long u RL in the chat box so my part is going to be real short today I just want to say it's not letting me so one of the things that I just actually realized and Going the Distance class we talked about jamboard as one of the Whiteboard but one of the things that we that I didn't mention then I actually just discovered the other day is if we open a new jamboard if I just add I know that we talk has been going the distance but there's so we talked about all of these toes against the Eraser the cursor we can import an image we could do and this is really cold that no matter what I'm whatever I'm talking about it goes away and I'm not sure that I actually paid attention to that feed your but let me just show you that you can change background to lined paper or you can change the background to graph paper and for those Math teachers and says that might be a really great thing the other thing is that like if you're talking about and I'm not but I really like this so that if you're talkin or you're teaching you can Circle it and it brings attention to it but it doesn't we just kind of cold the internet is a little slow but you see how it goes away or whatever so I just wanted to share those two things in jamboard and the other thing that I want to talk about as we start to problem-solve with our students about why their Google Classroom one it's if something won't upload correctly or if they can't look at their Summits what if what I'm saying is that all students should be in there I know that with a special with a souffle extensions if you are signed into a shared device and you are not signed in to Chrome and your G Suite account Beyond works very easily so on a Chromebook you don't have to worry about that but if you're on a device that's not a Chromebook like a like if you're using a new device a lot of teachers having to remind our students about that so those are the two things that I just wanted to point out real quick today had a parent from Richmond County was it search for Richmond County and her daughter what I'm sorry she hurt their family in Burke County her daughter attends Brooke County Schools but I think she wants in Richmond County and her daughter sign in on a Chromebook she didn't understand about the profile thing is going back and forth a work profile and her daughter's school profile and she was worried that her her computer was taken over by her daughters Burke County but yeah that's exactly what she needed to yeah it's a good idea you know as I as I've used Google a lot over the last few years that's one of the things that the kids struggle with early on in the sky until you say it the first day but everybody here so much on the first day it's one of those problem-solving things that every student has to remember in Google doesn't it's not real clearly Google the bike they don't have a manual well they do have papers and articles to read about it in their support section but multiple people or multiple accounts this how you go back and forth we got to figure all this out by ourselves but it's kind of fun to figure students that especially if their share devices with their siblings that are in different places or parents or whatever and if it's a struggle because you is something they don't think about at all right I want to stop the recording
