Our Purpose & Vision

At Burke County Public Schools, the Social Service Department plays a vital role in ensuring that each student leaves equipped for a world of possibilities. We recognize that academic success is deeply connected to a student's social, emotional, and physical well-being. By bridging the gap between home, school, and community, we work to remove non-academic barriers to learning so that every student has the opportunity and support needed to thrive.

How We Support Our Students & Families

Our dedicated school social workers provide comprehensive services designed to support the whole child:

  • Attendance & Engagement Intervention: Partnering with families and school support teams to address truancy, chronic absenteeism, and tardiness through collaborative intervention plans, helping students stay on track for graduation.

  • Crisis Intervention & Emotional Support: Offering immediate assistance, counseling resources, and ongoing support during times of personal, family, or community crisis.

  • Community Resource Linkage: Connecting families with essential local resources, including housing assistance, food stability, mental health services, and medical care.

  • Family-School Collaboration: Serving as an advocate and liaison to ensure open communication between parents, guardians, and school personnel.

  • McKinney-Vento & Specialized Advocacy: Providing targeted support for vulnerable student populations, including students in foster care or experiencing housing instability, to maintain educational stability.
