The responsibilities of this department include:

  • Oversight and administration of Title I, III, IVA, IVB, V, IX, and various grants and programs.
  • Work with the Title II-A Director on aspects of Title II-A Related to other Federal Programs.

  • Title I is a part of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA). This act provides federal funds through the Georgia Department of Education to local educational agencies (LEAs) and public schools with high numbers or percentages of economically disadvantaged children to help ensure that all children meet challenging State academic content and student academic achievement standards.

  • The Foster Care Program focuses on school access, improved educational outcomes, and enhanced academic stability for children and youth in foster care. The provisions derived from the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) establish guidelines for recognizing and addressing the unique needs of foster care children and youth.

  • The Georgia Department of Education’s Family-School Partnership Program ensures that Title I, Part A parent and family engagement regulations are met with meaningful and strategic actions to build parent and school staff capacity.

  • The Migrant Education Program (MEP) is designed to support migrant children to help reduce the educational disruption and other problems that result from repeated moves.

  • Title II, Part A grants provide funding for purposes related to recruitment, retention, and professional development of K-12 teachers and principals.

  • Title III helps ensure that English learners (ELs), including immigrant children and youth, attain English proficiency and develop high levels of academic achievement in English.

  • SSAE provides support for students in the areas of well-rounded education, safe and healthy students, and the use of technology.

  • RLIS is designed to assist rural school districts in using Federal resources more effectively to improve the quality of instruction and student academic achievement.

  • The McKinney-Vento Education for Homeless Children and Youth program is designed to address the problems that homeless children and youth have faced in enrolling, attending, and succeeding in school.
